Our Guest Speakers

Over the years, our students were fortunate to have access to a wide variety of world-class speakers and trainers. Take a look at some of the speakers that we have had the good fortune of inviting to speak to our students!

Andy Barr

Former Director of Performance and Rehabilitation, New York Knicks, Dr Andrew Barr is highly regarded as one of the world leaders in injury risk reduction of elite athletes.


His work has brought him to sports teams and performance centres across the globe, including the UK, Belgium, Holland, Iceland, the USA, Brazil, Japan and Qatar. His specialties include injury risk assessment, movement screening & corrective retraining, high performance training and monitoring, and injury treatment and rehabilitation.

Gary Vitti

Gary Vitti has worked in the health care field for over 35 years and the last 32 he has been the head athletic trainer for the storied Los Angeles Lakers.  During his tenure with the team he has worked with such basketball greats as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, magic Johnson, James Worthy, Shaquille O’neal and Kobe Bryant to name a few. 


From 1984 to 1992 Vitti was also the head athletic trainer for the Los Angeles strings of world team tennis.  His teams and exhibition matches included but not limited to tennis greats Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Martina Navratilova, Billy Jean King and Chris Evert. 

Laila White

Laila White is the Managing Director of Elite Fit which she founded in 2000 to provide fitness consultation and training, lifestyle studies and lectures for both individuals and corporations. In almost 20 years, she has built up a veritable reputation both as a gym designer, personal trainer and a fitness consultant.

Laila is well-respected and recognized by the fitness profession for her work in developing the fitness industry in South East Asia, most notably as a trainer of trainers, having trained the PTs of Bali association and Four Seasons Hotel Maldives. She travels extensively throughout the region for fitness consultation and training. Her clientele comes from all walks of life, ranging from an 8-year-old to high net worth individuals, celebrities and even royalty. She has helped Prince Hakeem of Brunei to improve his mobility and strength as a professional golfer, and played personal trainer to Princess Purna of Gujarat, India, nursing her back to health.

Nic Bartolotta

Nic Bartolotta is a licensed physical therapist and holistic health practitioner specially trained as a flexibility and myofascial release expert. He is also the co-founder of Range of Motion Products, maker of the Rolflex, and the creator of Dynamic Contraction Technique (DCT), which has revolutionized how we understand flexibility and the methods used to address human performance and rehabilitation.


Nic is entering into his third season working as a Flexibility Specialist/Consultant for the Dallas Mavericks.  The 2015/16 NBA season will bring a wider audience to DCT with the implementation of the CrossFire as well as several pending DCT ProFlex Certifications within the league. He continues to focus on performance-based product development and innovation within the field of Orthopedic Sports Medicine.

Professor Daniel Galvao

Professor Daniel Galvão is an exercise scientist, Cancer Council Western Australia Research Fellow, Co-Director of the Exercise Medicine Research Institute and Professor in the School of Medical and Health Sciences at Edith Cowan University, Australia.

His research program focuses on applications of exercise as medicine for the prevention and management of cancer treatment side effects and survival and has received funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council, Cancer Australia, Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and Cancer Council Western Australia. Overall the body of work has demonstrated the efficacy and safety of implementing exercise in the setting of oncology with substantial benefits translated to patients from early stage/localised disease to patients with advanced metastatic cancer.

Tan Tse Yong

Tan Tse Yong is the former Group CEO of two home-grown businesses that are dedicated to promoting an active and healthy lifestyle, namely Fitlion, an e-store specializing in health and fitness supplements and accessories, and GymmBoxx, a chain of quality wallet-friendly gyms.

As the former Group CEO, Tse Yong has led the combined business teams of 40 management and staff members to achieve a sizeable sales turnover of over $13 million in just a short span of six years.

Dee Dee Mahmood

Ms Dee Dee Mahmood, an international multi-award-winning Exercise Physiologist/Celebrity Trainer and Nutritionist is currently the Academic Adjunct (International Collaborations) with Edith Cowan University, Australia. Her experience and expertise include being Consultant & Visiting Lecturer for University of Malaya, Lecturer for the International Sports Academy, United States Sports Academy, American Council on Exercise and the Singapore Sports Council.


A Golden Key International Honor Society Scholar, Dee Dee received her bachelor’s degree and postgraduate in Australia and Singapore. Dee Dee’s PhD research on obesity under the University of Malaya supported by National University of Singapore, was selected, because of its impact in Asia, and presented in the President’s Cup Award in the American College of Sports Medicine Annual Chapter Meeting 2016 in Tacoma Washington.

Professor Robert Newton

Professor Robert Newton, PhD, AEP, CSCS*D, FESSA, FNSCA is Associate Dean, Medical and Exercise Sciences and Co-Director of the Exercise Medicine Research Institute at Edith Cowan University, Perth, Western Australia.  Current major research directions include: reducing decline in strength, body composition and functional ability in cancer patients; cancer-related fatigue and the influence of exercise; exercise medicine and tumour biology.


Professor Newton has spent the past 30 years teaching, researching and consulting in human high performance having worked with numerous international and professional groups such as Nike, Chicago Bulls, New Jersey Nets, Indianapolis Colts, England Rugby, English Institute of Sport, Manchester United, and the Chinese Olympic Committee. Principal expertise centers around the development of strength, speed and power.

Dr Benedict Tan

Dr Ben Tan graduated in 1991 with a medical degree from the National University of Singapore and obtained his Masters in Sports Medicine in 1997 from the world-renown Australian Institute of Sport. He is Chief and Senior Consultant of Sports Medicine at Changi General Hospital. The Department runs two of Singapore’s leading Sports Medicine Centers - Changi Sports Medicine Centre and Singapore Sports Medicine Center.

Dr. Teoh Chin Sim

Dr Teoh Chin Sim is a sports physician, Senior Consultant and Director of the Sports Medicine Centre at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. At KTPH, the main area of focus in her practice is musculoskeletal medicine. A qualified acupuncturist, she has a keen interest in the management of chronic pain, and sports nutrition supplementation to optimise health and performance.


Over the past 2 decades, Dr Teoh has been attending team sports physician to Singapore’s elite athletes, travelling with them to international games such as the South East Asian, Asian, Commonwealth, Youth Olympic and Paralympic Games. Her most recent appointment was as Chief Medical Officer to Team Singapore at the SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games 2015. This September, she will be at 2016 Rio Paralympic Games as a member of the Anti-Doping Committee of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

Dr. Troy Baker

Dr. Troy Baker is the Elite Support Lead for Hudl in the Asia Pacific region. He is a registered Sport Psychologist, a member of the Australian College of Sport Psychology and has spent the last 18 years working in Elite Sport. He is driven to help teams win by enabling them to get the most out of video and data using their own coaching philosophies.on, NBATA, Loyola Athletics, Team Heal, Str Basket Italia, and the Kappa Alpha PSI Fraternity.

Alan Ma

Alan Ma is now the Chief Director of Star River Professional Tennis Club, which is the first professional tennis club in Mainland China. He is an internationally well-known coach. Over 20 years, he coached nearly 100 professional players, including Grand Slam titlists Andy Roddick, Peng Shuai, and Asian Rising Stars Zarina Diyas and Zheng Saisai. He also had three players who had ranked No. 1 on ITF Juniors Ranking.

Scott Logan

Scott has worked extensively with the New Zealand Men’s Hockey Team, the Black Sticks, over the last 7 years, beginning with 3 years as the assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach and now 4 years as the Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach. Over the past four years he has attended World Championships, Commonwealth Games, World League Semis and Finals, Champions Trophy and

numerous other international hockey events. Scott’s role as strength and conditioning coach for the NZ Hockey team involves being in charge of the strength, speed, conditioning, advanced rehab, return to play, recovery, match day physical preparation and sports science program for 25 national squad players and a further 10 development squad players. Scott uses a wide range of sports science practices to make sure his athletes are amongst the fittest hockey players on the planet including GPS, heart rate, strength and power profiling, maximal speed

testing, maximal aerobic speed testing and daily wellness monitoring. Scott places a large emphasis on making sure all data monitored and collected within his sports science program is meaningful and enhances his prescription of training loads to his athletes. There is no testing just for testing sake.
